My April 2020 Book Reviews!
I am currently over 50 days into quarantine and social distancing and I have to be honest and say that I am not reading all the books like I thought I would be. Personally I am having a hard time maintaining focus long enough to read a book. I am trying to show myself grace within this time, while doing things to set myself up for success. I am maintaining my workout routines, trying to get up and do my hair a few days a week, put on real clothes, etc. Anyways, I digress, this month I read three pretty good books. Dead Wake by Erik Larson I have been…

My January 2020 Book Reviews!
I started the year strong! This month I read FOUR books. I am so pumped to get a jump start on my goal of reading 50 books in 2020. I actually really liked most of the books that I read this month, so let me dive right in and tell you about them. City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert This was my book club read for January. I was excited to read it because even though I haven’t read Eat, Pray, Love by Gilbert, I absolutely loved the movie. Reminder to add Eat, Pray, Love to my reading list! I was very underwhelmed by this book and I wasn’t alone. …

My June 2019 Book Reviews
The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine This was my book club book this month. I personally really liked it but after reading the reviews on Goodreads, I can understand why this book could be triggering to some people. Of the negative reviews, personally, none of those things did I think of or feel while reading the book, but after reading other people comment on them I saw where they were coming from and why they would hate this book. This story was about a girl pretended to be named Amber. She develops a fake life as a sister of someone who passed away from Cystic Fibrosis in order to…

My May 2019 Book Reviews
The school year is starting to wind down and I am looking forward to getting a lot of reading done this summer. I have visions of myself sitting by the pool reading book after book. But, we all know that is not going to happen quite as I plan. A girl can dream, right?! The 14th Colony by Steve Berry I am a big fan of the Cotton Malone series that Steve Berry writes. I love the way he writes historical fiction mixed with action and adventure. This book was not one of my favorites but it also did not disappoint. The way that Steve Berry researches the historical events…

My April 2019 Book Reviews
This month I had grand plans of reading so many books over April vacation from school. Well, that didn’t happen and I am really going to have to pick up my pace if I want to meet my goal of 50 books in 2019! I am trying to mix more non-fiction into my reading so this month I got through one of each, fiction and non-fiction. Burying the Honeysuckle Girls by Emily Carpenter This was my book club book this month and I was not a huge fan. There were elements of this book that I found enjoyable but then there was a lot that I didn’t. It is the…

March 2019 Book Reviews!
Another slow month, I am definitely going to have to pick it up during April vacation!! But I have two good non-fiction books this month! I have been reading a lot of non-fiction trying to absorb as much information as I can about self-care and motivation. This month I didn’t read any fiction books, but I hope to read a few next month!! You are a Badass Every Day Prior to reading this book, I read You are a Badass, also by Jen Sincero. Jen Sincero has an easy to read style of motivation. This novel is designed to help you refocus your life, put aside distractions, and work towards…

My January 2019 Book Reviews
Last year I didn’t meet my Goodreads goal of reading 50 books. So this year I set the same goal again and I’m not off to a good start. I better get down to business and do some catching up over February Vacation! A Bone to Pick by Charlaine Harris This is the second book in the Aurora Teagarden book series. I found this series because I am a big fan of the movies with Candace Cameron Bure on the Hallmark Channel. Although one thing that I did find to be interesting is that they released the first two movies in the reverse order of the books. This novel is about…

December 2018 Book Reviews
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones An American Marriage is a novel about a young couple whose marriage is torn apart when the husband is tried and convicted of attacking a woman. As the reader, we know that he has been wrongfully accused as the narrator shows us that he was not there when it happened. And his wife and family know that he is innocent, but they struggle to prove it. When he finally is let out of prison after his lawyer proves he was wrongfully convicted (although it really doesn’t go into how this happened) his wife has moved on without him and we go through the journey…

9 Best Books That I Read in 2018
Night Road by Kristin Hannah This book did not disappoint! This is the story of two families and how a bad decision can affect so many people. Jude is a bit of a helicopter mom with teenaged twins. Lexi is a teenager whose mother was not around for her. She was taken out of foster care by a great aunt who wanted to take her in. Lexi was looking to fit in at a new school when she met her new best friend Mia and her twin brother Zach. Those relationships will change all of their lives forever. This was an incredible book. Honestly, it may be one of my…

My November 2018 Book Reviews
This month was a slow reading month for me. To be completely honest, this school year is kicking my butt. We, as a team, are dealing with some of the most extreme, and widespread behavior issues that we have ever seen. It is my fifth year teaching, so I’m still somewhat new and for me, this is the most challenging year yet. Alright, vent over, I just felt like I should explain why I’m not reading as much. I am a huge fan of Diane Chamberlain, but I am not a huge fan of this novel. The novel is the story of a little girl with severe health problems who…
