Every so often, Pinterest changes its algorithm.  When this happens it is crucial for bloggers to adapt their pinning strategy to try and get the best possible traffic on their content.

Well, Pinterest has announced, through Tailwind, that they are making some major changes!

What do I need to know?

Pinterest’s changes are really focusing on promoting “Fresh Content”  This means that you can not post the same images repeatedly.

So we need to be creating fresh, new graphics to go with our blog posts.

In the past, I have had 3-5 images for each blog post and I have pinned them on rotation.  It seems like Pinterest isn’t going to feature this content as much anymore.

You will get featured more often, which can lead to more traffic if you are constantly creating fresh content.

So what do I do?

Create 5-10 eye-catching graphics to promote each of your blog posts.  Use a pin scheduler, like Tailwind, to schedule your pins so they automatically post to Facebook at predetermined times that will get you the most traffic.

Avoid duplicate pins when you can.  A duplicate pin is when the same image and link combination is shared to Pinterest multiple times from the same user.

Do I get penalized for posting duplicate content when someone repins my pin? No!  This is organic content that comes from people liking and wanting to save or share your content.  This does not hurt you in any way!

How can Tailwind help?

Tailwind has created a new tool called Smart Guide.  Smart Guide is constantly reviewing your pins and your pinning strategy and will tell you when it finds a problem.

Over time, Smart Guide is also going to help you stay up to date with the most current Pinterest strategies.  It will also help you by suggesting ways to make your pinning strategy better and small changes you can make to better your strategy.
