Clare was orphaned as a child, when she met her husband Dan she thought she finally found the family that she always wanted.  When her husband’s brother surprises everyone on their family vacation by telling them that he eloped and introducing his new wife, Clare worries that this is going to blow up every thing she loves.  Elle, Clare’s new sister in law, is gorgeous.  She is a model, instagram influencer, and has everything that Clare doesn’t.  But she seems to be out to get Clare.. what is the secret that she is holding over Clare’s head.

This story was engaging and easy to read.  I felt all of Clare’s anger and frustration.  Almost too much anger and frustration.  This book was so engaging that I felt my mood change and had to remind myself that this was not happening to me.  An author that can drag me so into the emotions of a character is very talented.  What I didn’t like about the book is that I felt that Clare just kept getting dumped on, over and over and over.  This made me very uncomfortable and frustrated.  Because of that I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.  With it being the first week of school I think I should have picked up a light hearted book that would make me happy.  I will try reading another of Sue Watson’s book, but maybe I’ll wait until my stress level settles down.

The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett

This was the story of two twin sisters who go their separate ways.  They live very different lives and eventually their lives start to intertwine through the lives of their children.  I really liked this book, it was a heartwarming story.  But I did feel like the author tried to cram too much into one book.

Overall I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Reading People by Anne Bogel

This is a nonfiction book that is about people’s personalities.  This book explains the basis of the most common personality tests, the Meyers-Briggs, the Enneagram, as well as the StrengthsFinder and others.

This book was interesting, it was not life-changing but it was a quick easy read that I feel like taught me some, I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins

This is a prequel to the very popular Hunger Games series.  I must begin this review by saying I am a huge Hunger Games fan and this prequel did not disappoint.  This tells the back story about President Snow.  It tells what he was like when he was young and gives some insight into how he became the man he was in the Hunger Games Trilogy.  President Snow is a young student in the time of this prequel, he is selected to be a mentor to a tribute in the Hunger Games.

I felt like this really could have been two stories.  The story of what happened during that year’s Hunger Games and then the story that followed about what happened after really could have been made into two books. Overall I loved it, I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars!
