Now that school is out, I’m hoping to make some big progress on my 2018 reading goal of 50 books because I am falling seriously behind!

Night Road by Kristin Hannah

If you have read the last few of these, you would know that I’m on a bit of a Kristin Hannah kick.  This book did not disappoint! This is the story of two families and how a bad decision can affect so many people.

Jude is a bit of a helicopter mom with teenaged twins.  Lexi is a teenager whose mother was not around for her.  She was taken out of foster care by a great aunt who wanted to take her in.  Lexi was looking to fit in at a new school when she met her new best friend Mia and her twin brother Zach.  Those relationships will change all of their lives forever.

This was an incredible book.  Honestly, it may be one of my favorites.  I gave it 5 out of 5 stars.

A Beautiful Place to Die by Philip R. Craig

A little bit of a backstory.  When I was younger I found this mystery book while on vacation with my family on Martha’s Vineyard.  I really, really liked the books and was ecstatic when I found out that they were a series.  Since then, whenever I see another book in this series at a bookstore, I pick it up.  But then a few years ago I found out that the author had passed and a lot of the books were going out of print.  So I went on Amazon and bought the rest of the series.

This is the first book in the series.  Once I had the whole series I decided I wanted to start at the beginning.  It introduces us to JW Jackson, a retired cop who after getting shot on the job retired to Martha’s Vineyard.  In the story, a boat carrying friends of his explodes and the family asks JW for help figuring out if there was any foul play.

This is a great book that reminds me why I love a good murder mystery, and why I love Martha’s Vineyard.

I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Fail Until You Don’t by Bobby Bones

Call me crazy, but I’m a big Bobby Bones fan.  I listen to the radio show every day and listen to his other podcast.  I read his first book last summer so when I heard he was writing another one I had to buy it.

This book was pretty good.  It was a motivational book about how to reach your goals and achieve your dreams.  Bones is a pretty unique writer, his writing style is very conversational, not what you normally get in a book.  This made it more interesting at certain points, but also sometimes it was not beneficial.  At times he would go off on a bit of a tangent that felt a little pointless.

But, overall this was a good book.

I would give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Business Boutique by Christy Wright

So I feel like I am doing everything with this blog that I should be but I am still not seeing the success that I am striving for.  I felt like I hit a bit of a plateau so I found this book by Christy Wright that is specifically written to women who are trying to run their own business.

Christy really gets women.  She understands what motivates us and what holds us back.  This book was really good, it had some great tips and things I hadn’t thought of.

The only thing that would have made this book better for me as if it was more focused on blogging and digital sales.  There are a lot of similarities between what I do and what someone has to do to open a bakery.  But, there are also a LOT of differences.  I don’t have any sort of brick and mortar store that I am managing.

I give this book 4 stars.
