The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

This was my book club book this month.  I personally really liked it but after reading the reviews on Goodreads, I can understand why this book could be triggering to some people.  Of the negative reviews, personally, none of those things did I think of or feel while reading the book, but after reading other people comment on them I saw where they were coming from and why they would hate this book.

This story was about a girl pretended to be named Amber.  She develops a fake life as a sister of someone who passed away from Cystic Fibrosis in order to befriend a Daphne Parrish who ran a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to honor her own sister.  Amber has had a tough life and she thinks that she deserves everything that Daphne has, so she sets out to steal her husband and get Daphne’s life for herself.

This story had a lot of twists and turns.  I actually enjoyed most of it but there were some graphic, violent scenes that I did not feel were necessary and could have been upsetting to some people.  I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.  It was an easy read with an interesting ending.

The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown

This was my non-fiction read for the month of June.  After taking an enneagram test (try it, it’s free and interesting!) I found out that I am classified as a Type 2.  When reading the description of a Type 2 I was shook!  Pros and cons of the description were exactly me!  It was eerie.  So I decided that I would use some of this information to guide my personal development journey.  Long story short, I read that Type 2s should read anything and everything Brene Brown.  So I started with this book.

The Gifts of Imperfection was a great read.  It helped me to see a lot of character traits that I need to work on, things that I need to forgive myself for, and how I can continue to grow as a person.  I intend on continuing to read Brene Brown books as I feel like she speaks directly to me!

I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars!
