March 2020 Book Reviews
Looking for something to read while in quarantine? I read a few books in the month of March that were pretty good!
I am sure my April book reviews are going to have a lot more since there isn’t much else to do.
Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner
I had a hard time with this book, I think I took it out from the library three different times because I just couldn’t get through it. This is the story of two sisters growing up through a time where women were not typically encouraged to be themselves and be different. Jo is a lesbian in secret but follows the path of what is expected of her and Bethie is the free spirit, living the life of a hippie in the time of Woodstock.
I feel like this book had so much potential, but I just couldn’t get into it. I have a difficult time not finishing a book. When I start a book I won’t give it up. That is the only reason I finished this book.
I gave this book 2 out of 5 stars.
Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple
This is a book that for some reason had no desire to read and I just didn’t like it without even trying it. I think it is because of my opinion of the person who originally recommended the book.
But I actually really liked the book. I had a difficult time finding the title character likable but I did really enjoy reading about her. This is the story of an eclectic former architect named Bernadette. She has odd opinions of society and odd behaviors to match. She lives in this old, falling apart house with her husband and daughter. The private school moms at the school her daughter attends can’t stand her and she does nothing to prevent this.
This was actually a really easy and fun read. I regret waiting so long to read it!
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars.
