So this is something that I don’t think any of us were prepared for.  I personally live alone, but I have never wanted to spend 10 days (so far) in my house, by myself.  Don’t get me wrong, I love some good alone time to relax and recharge, but this is tough.  It gives me all the time in the world to dwell on every mistake I have ever made and all the things I am still hoping to accomplish… sounds fun, right?

Well, I assume that a lot of us are in a new boat.  A place that no one expected to be.  Whether you are an essential worker and trying to keep yourself safe during this time, you, like me, have more alone time than you ever hoped for, or you are quarantined with your family and are trying to figure out homeschooling!

I put together some tips for keeping yourself sane during your time of social isolation.

Make a Schedule

It can be easy to turn on the TV and just be lazy all day.  And if you do this for a day or so, that’s fine!  But, you will feel more normal and productive if you are getting stuff done.

Decide how much time you want to spend on certain tasks and then make a schedule.

I use Google Calendar for everything.  I went into Google and made a rough schedule for each day.

The big key here is, once you create your schedule… stick to it!

Making a schedule and then doing nothing isn’t going to help anything.

Get Outside (If You Can)

As of right now, where I live, there is nothing wrong with getting outside.

Staying home all day, every day, for weeks will make you go nuts!

I have been making sure to take walks.  I live in a complex where I have to take my trash to a dumpster.  This week, I have been making a point to walk my trash to the dumpster on nice days.

If you live in an area with warm weather, read your book outside!  Just being outside in the sun and fresh air will help you feel not so couped up.

Try to Not Worry

Many of us, myself included, are going to be facing lost wages during this time.

Try to stay calm, as hard as that will be.  Sitting at home and worrying is not going to make anything different.

Seek out assistance in your community, look for a food pantry, look to see if your financial institutions or local governments are offering any assistance that you can qualify for.

Worrying does not change the outcome, it just causes all kinds of stress on your body.

It is easy to say, but not easy to do; try to stay calm.

Get Some Work Done!

Even if you are not required to work from home, there are probably things that you have been putting off.

Make a list of all of the things that you have been wanting to do and start checking them off.

You finally have the time to clean out your closet, reorganize your basement, or start that new hobby!

Getting things accomplished is going to give you that pride boost that you may need right now.
