Tips for Starting a Teacher Instagram
So there are many reasons that Instagram is wonderful, but trying to build a following can be quite a headache!
If you are running a Teachers Pay Teachers store, or a blog, you are probably working on having an online presence to help build an audience and get traffic to your blog and store.
Maintain Your Brand
When you are making an instagram, make sure to use the same or similar logos to what you have on your other sites. This allows people to recognize you better. If your logo becomes familiar to them then they will be more likely to follow you and recognize you when they come across your page.
Also, try to keep the same or a similar name for the same reasons.
If you have not created a logo or a brand yet, this is a great time to get creative.
You can use websites like Canva to create a logo and with a free account they have some awesome tools to help you with graphics. Not sponsored or an affiliate link, I really just love them!
Interact with other teachers
When you are on Instagram, it is great to follow people but you can’t just leave it there. Interact with other accounts. Not only will you start building relationships with other likeminded people, you can see what they’re doing and whether or not their techniques are successful.
There are follow loops all of the time on Instagram. If you choose to participate in one (I do occasionally) make sure that you are not doing them all of the time. If I look at your instagram feed and all I see are posts about follow loops I am going to think that your account is “spammy” and I’m not going to want to follow you or continue to follow you.
Make sure you are commenting on other people’s posts or participating in their conversations. This will help you develop a network.
Be Consistent
You need to come up with a social media plan, not matter how detailed or simple you decide on, and stick to it. When I was sporadic with my Instagram account, posting periodically, I wasn’t growing at all. When I decided to finally make a plan and post more regularly, my account started to grow.
The easiest way to be consistent is to plan your posts in advance. What I do is I keep a running list of ideas and then I schedule my posts out a week at a time.
I use Tailwind to schedule my instagram posts and then I can go back during the week and add stories or interact with other teachers. But when things get busy, I know that everything is going to post successfully!
Good luck with your Teacher Instagram!
