Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens

I really put off reading this book.  I am not sure why.  I got it from the library several times and each time it sat unread until it was time to return it.  I feel like I get nervous to read books that have great critical acclaim.  I just worry that they’re not going to live up to the hype.  Well this one did.  This is the novel of a young girl who grows up in a quiet fishing village.  She is left by her mother at a young age, her father later, and in the meantime all of her siblings leave as well.  She has to find her own way through taking care of herself, educating herself and through love.

I wish I didn’t take so long to read this book.  It was fantastic.  The ending really took me by surprise.  I have talked to many other people who said that they expected the ending and I just didn’t.

Read this book, it was amazing.

I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars.

First We Make the Beast Beautiful by Sarah Wilson

This book is the true story about the author’s life and her battle with anxiety.   I really could not get into this book and I didn’t even finish it.  Part of the problem could be that I got it through the library on audio book and I feel like I never get as invested in audiobooks.

But I read this book looking for practical tips and tools to use with my anxiety and there was little about this author’s life that I could relate to.  It was a nice story and Wilson is a talented writer, it was just not what I was looking for.

I gave this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

I don’t know why I don’t just immediately read every book that this man writes.  His writing style is so quirky and enjoyable that I just love his novels.

This novel is the story of a group of adults that are held hostage in an apartment after a botched bank robbery.  You slowly start to unravel the connections between the characters and discover more about who they are and how they ended up in this situation.

I loved this book, it was a story about human interaction and how you can change someone’s life without even realizing it.

I gave this book 4.5 out of 5 stars.
