I had big plans of reading all the books over April Vacation from school.  But, that didn’t happen, I only read my normal three books this month.  I am really going to have to get moving if I am going to hit 50 books this year!

My book club book this month was The Stars Are Fire by Anita Shreve.  This novel is the story of a young mother who is dealing with a strained relationship with her husband.  She lives on the coast of Maine in the mid-1900s.  When a fire destroys her hometown, she is required to start over and learn how to crawl from the ashes and rebuild herself.  She has to figure out how to get a job, housing, and transportation while caring for her children.

This novel showed the strength of a single mother who is put in a difficult place.  How hard she will work to overcome her situations and care for her children.  I really liked this book, there could have been more character development, but overall it was an interesting and enjoyable read!

I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars.

The second book that I read this month was The Patriot Threat by Steve Berry. This is the tenth book in the Cotton Malone series by Steve Berry.  I stumbled upon this series a few years ago and really enjoyed the way Steve Berry tells a story so I decided to go back and read the series from the beginning.  This story revolves around the relationship with North Korea, as well as the sixteenth amendment.  How can an amendment about income tax be interesting?  Well, it was!

This book provided the usual action scenes, mixed with flashbacks to American history, and interesting relationships with the characters.  This was not my favorite of the Cotton Malone series, but it was still pretty good.

I gave this book 3.5 stars out of 5.

My third book that I read this month was Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling.  I loved this book, but I am also a huge Harry Potter geek.  This book takes place 20 years after the final book ended.  In it, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are all grown up and have their own children.  The storyline of this book includes Harry, Ron, and Hermione, but Harry’s son Albus is also a major part of this storyline.  It brings back Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy, and many other characters that we’ve loved reading about for years.  If you are a Harry Potter fan, this book is a must!

I don’t want to say too much about this story because I don’t want to give anything away, but I have to give this story 5 stars. Partly for the nostalgia, but mostly because I really liked it, I read the whole thing in one day.

Any other recommendations for next month’s reading list?
